Statement by director Adrian Schwartz
The boundaries between digital and earthly realities are already blurring. Tech companies enable us to live a virtual existence. Real feelings are transfigured with the means of the digital. Virtual profiles have long been relevant to society. Voice assistance and autonomous vehicles point the way to the future. We are faced with the challenge of an enlightened approach to the possibilities of technology and the decisions we delegate to it. The protagonist Charlie is caught in an all-too-human dilemma and feels the lure of technology. But it is not the minduploading revolution that deserves our main attention. It is the people, the doubters. What do they believe in if not the promises of salvation offered by technology? How will we behave when we develop even more powerful technological tools? Don't we wish today that we could radically redesign everything? And if we had the chance, would we give up everything? "We All Go Up" explores what it means to be human in the face of omnipotent technologies.
